Risk Management: The Foundation of Trading Success

Risk Management: The Foundation of Trading Success

Why the traders who last aren't the ones who predict best — they're the ones who survive best

Risk Management Comes Before Strategy

It's tempting to believe that trading success is primarily about finding the right entry strategy. In reality, even a strategy with a modest win rate can be profitable with disciplined risk management, while even a high win-rate strategy can blow up an account without it. Risk management determines whether you're still trading a year from now — strategy determines how efficiently you grow once you are.

The Core Rule: Fixed Percentage Risk

Risking a small, fixed percentage of account equity per trade — commonly 0.5% to 2% — ensures that any single loss, or even a string of losses, doesn't meaningfully damage your ability to keep trading. This single habit is what separates professional risk management from gambling.
• Define your risk percentage before you start trading, not after a losing streak
• Calculate position size from your stop-loss distance, not the other way around
• Never move a stop loss further away once a trade is open
• Track your risk-adjusted results (R-multiples), not just win rate

The Asur Labs Approach: Every SDYKA signal includes a defined SL alongside Entry and TP levels — risk is calculated before the trade, never adjusted after.
